Video conferencing for outpatients and physiotherapy

Matt HoltonHealthcare

Outpatient care and physiotherapy can be a long process, for some patients it could involve regular trips to hospitals/GP surgeries for their whole life. On occasions these appointments don’t even require any treatment, they’re simply for a check-up to see how a patient is coping. When this is the case, why not have the appointment via video?

By utilising video consultations, you can reduce the amount of time and money patients spend travelling to-and-from appointments. This is particularly beneficial to patients that live in remote areas where travelling may be difficult. Some illnesses, injuries etc. may also make travelling uncomfortable, video can eliminate this by enabling patients to have their appointment from the comfort of their own home.

There may be times when a physician needs to speak to a specialist regarding the treatment, care etc. of a patient. Video allows you to contact specialists from all over the world, quickly and easily.

Physiotherapy sessions can also easily be held over a video call. You can have 1 to 1 time with a patient, go through all the exercises they need to do, whilst still having the ability to see them and make sure they are doing everything correctly.

All you need for a video consultation is a device with a camera and an email address. Consultations can then be held wherever suits you. During the consultation both attendees will have the ability to share their screen, documents or to present if necessary.
